The purpose of the position is to coordinate the operations of Venture Outdoor Leadership’s indoor climbing wall, ensuring a safe and educative environment. The intern will supervise 5-10 student leaders; coordinate staff schedules; provide regular feedback to student staff; and communicate regularly with the assistant director of adventure leadership. The intern will coordinate monthly workshops and the annual climbing competition, including marketing efforts, prize donation procurement, staffing, and event logistics. Venture Outdoor Leadership UPIPs are also a part of the leadership team and expected to assist with signature events, such as fall training, Gold Rush HTC Open House, and semester interest meetings.

The intern should be comfortable with public speaking and giving critical feedback to peers; have strong, professional interpersonal communication skills; strong organization skills; and proven attention to detail. The intern must have successfully completed either KNES 1231 or the VOLT Foundations workshop series and earned Lead status at UNC Charlotte’s indoor climbing wall. Preferred qualifications include: a consistent, positive presence in the Venture Outdoor Leadership program; is in their final year at UNC Charlotte; and has earned a “Lead” status in at least one activity area within Venture Outdoor Leadership; and successful completion of KNES 2239 (Rock Climbing Management).
