Job Description

The Council of American Overseas Research Centers is seeking a Summer Intern to aid in the development and management of programs.

The intern's primary role will be to assist staff with the Overseas Faculty Development Seminar program for faculty from community colleges and minority-serving institutions. The successful candidate will receive training in international affairs, program planning and management, writing and communications, and academic research. Specific tasks will include organizing a multi-day orientation program and conducting research on the marketing and promotion of the Overseas Faculty Development Seminar program. Other projects may include interviews and assessments of past programs. Additional duties may be assigned.

This internship is fully remote, although in-person meetings may be available for students in Washington D.C. and/or Portland, Maine.

The ideal candidate is an undergraduate studying International Relations, Education, Arts/Humanities, Foreign Language, or Area Studies, with a demonstrated interest in global education. Students with a community college or minority-serving institution background are strongly encouraged to apply.

It is preferred that applicants have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes) by the start of the internship. Additional skills required include:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, including experience with databases, the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Forms, and internet research
  • Strong research abilities
  • Excellent writing, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Ability to attend regularly scheduled meetings
  • Self-directed with the ability to multitask and prioritize proactively
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The position requires 8-10 hours per week for 12 weeks, with a $1200 stipend paid upon completion of the internship. Interns are encouraged to seek academic credit.
