Overview
Report to: Assistant Director of Enrollment Programs
Office: Enrollment Programs & Communications
Start Date: August 15, 2024
Hours: 9 hours per month
Pay: $10 per hour
Mentor Summary
Enrollment Programs & Communications (EPC) selects a group of dedicated undergraduate student leaders to assist with implementing the New Student Community (NSC). NSC will be led by five (5) New Student Community Builders who will help to create and foster community, personal development and belonging for all new students at Charlotte with the support of student leaders, faculty and staff. Each mentor will have 10 - 20 incoming students to aid retention efforts.
Eligibility
- Be an undergraduate, degree-seeking student who has completed or is enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours at UNC Charlotte throughout the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.
- Have a UNC Charlotte grade point average (cumulative) of at least 2.5 at the time of application and maintain a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 throughout the duration of the position.
- Be in good conduct standing with the University, as described in the Code of Student Responsibility and Code of Student Academic Integrity.
- Exhibit commitment to the mission and values of Enrollment Programs & Communications and Enrollment Management.
- Demonstrate a desire to learn about UNC Charlotte in addition to its regulations, people, and programs, as well as a willingness to share said information with others.
- Demonstrates or possesses a willingness to learn the following qualities: maturity, responsibility, innovation, motivation, flexibility, critical thinking, enthusiasm, integrity, and a strong and positive work ethic.
- Exhibit leadership potential, good interpersonal communication, and group presentation skills.
- Be eager to improve leadership and teamwork skills.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Assistance
- Assist the Enrollment Programs team with retention-focused events throughout the academic year for New Student Community and additional programs including trainings and workshops.
- Contribute to the development of training and workshop materials for New Student Community.
- Facilitate workshops that cover topics of belonging, academics, registration, well-being, etc.
- Be a mentor to a group of 10-20 students and facilitate conversations regarding belonging, academics, registration, well-being, etc.
- Assist with retention based events throughout the academic year including Gold Rush, Registration Week, etc.
Student Recruitment
- Assist in the management and execution of the recruitment of New Student Community participants and future New Student Community Builders.
- Volunteer shifts at New Student Orientation Resource Fairs, tabling events, etc.
Campus Collaboration
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with campus partners.
- Collaborate with campus partners to assist in Enrollment Programs programming and New Student Community participants.
Office
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and mandatory supplemental meetings.

Additional Information
Please note, Community Builders are able to work other on-campus jobs while working in this role. The Community Builder position pays nine (9) hours per month, so hours can be flexible to adhere to the weekly student work limitation.
