Position Description

  • Responsible for directing support of Research and Development functions through various engineering activities; analyzing data to improve utility operations and planning; staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies; performing studies to evaluate the transmission system performance and recommend improvement plans; coordinating and responding to requests for technical information from within Santee Cooper as well as from outside agencies.



Essential Job Tasks:

  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to establish an environment that motivates and engages others in the efforts of research and development to design and implement new utility solutions.
  • Performs research to identify new technologies, trends, and innovations in the utility sector.
  • Develops and utilizes data analysis tools to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of utility systems and identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Stays up to date with advancements and emerging technologies in the utility sector including relevant Federal regulations and standards that could impact the utility sector.
  • Leads efforts in the development of forecast substation loads and base case power flow models used for all Transmission Planning activities.
  • Performs transmission studies including power flow, short circuit or dynamics studies to evaluate transmission system performance and recommend system improvement plans as necessary to assist Transmission Planning related activities.
  • Provides verbal and/or written study results and recommendations to management as required.
  • Serves and assists those currently serving as Santee Cooper’s representatives on various sub-regional and regional reliability and data exchange working groups, and R&D groups (VACAR, SERC, EPRI).
  • Performs and reviews the preparation of data reports for internal and external use, and various industry surveys.
  • Leads in the evaluation and development of computer software used for planning activities.
  • Provides direct training of personnel to promote their technical development on newly developed utility technologies or systems.
  • Promotes continued understanding of all aspects of transmission system planning, design and operation.

Position Requirements

  • This position may be eligible for hybrid (remote and in person arrangement).



  • *Will consider Senior Engineer, Engineer III, Engineer II or Engineer I

    Senior Engineer
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited University or College + 8 years of related work experience.
  • South Carolina Professional Engineer registration is required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $100,550 - $125,680 (min. - mid.)

    Engineer III
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited University or College + 5 years of experience.
  • Passing performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam within the Electrical and Computer Engineering discipline is required.


  • Compensation Information:
    $90,190 - $112,730 (min. - mid.)

    Engineer II
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited University or College + 2 years of experience.
  • Passing performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.

    $80,890 - $101,110 (min. - mid.)

    Engineer I
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an EAC/ABET accredited University or College.
  • Passing performance on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.

    $72,550 - $90,680 (min. - mid.)
