As a charity health care nonprofit organization, we at Care Ring depend on volunteers and interns, both medical and non-medical; to be able to provide the much needed care to medically underserved people in Mecklenburg County. The spirit of volunteering/interning and giving back is truly a rewarding experience.

Volunteering/interning is valuable to all parties involved, as it gives much needed support to nonprofits, while also teaching and providing many important tools that can greatly impact your life and career.

Each and every charitable act a volunteer/intern contributes to the excellence of charity health care delivered to our patients.

With the Low Cost Clinic
Hours: M-F 8a-5pm
Hybrid position


Program Support
Volunteers and interns are needed to answer the phone, schedule appointments, make reminder calls to patients regarding their appointments, fax patient information to LabCorp and physician offices, assemble charts, make copies, file, assist patients with paperwork, scan documents and medical records, and perform data entry. The ability to speak Spanish is required.


Clinic Translator
Care Ring has a strong need for bi-lingual volunteers to assist with greeting patients, handling phone calls, explaining paperwork, and, if needed, accompanying patients to the exam room to translate for the provider. Translators will not be asked to remain in the exam room to assist with invasive procedures. When there are no patients who require translation, the volunteer will assist with clinic program support, including minor written translation, such a program flyers or brochures. Some bilingual volunteers assist with translating program support materials into Spanish, Russian, and Vietnamese. Spanish is required.


Medical Office Assistant
The clinic is an excellent place for medical office assistants to perform externships. Interns/externs can provide front office/administrative program support, as described above, as well as the opportunity to take vital statistics, draw blood, collect specimens, and administer shots. You must have a CNA or EMT Certification to work in the clinic and be able to speak Spanish.

With Physicians Reach Out (PRO)
Hours: M-F 8a-5pm
Hybrid position


Enrollment Support
Volunteers and interns are needed to assist with Physician’s Reach Out Enrollment (PRO) Monday, afternoons and Wednesday and Thursday mornings. This will include greeting clients as they arrive for their scheduled enrollment appointment, escorting them to their enrollment location and assisting other Care Ring visitors with problem resolution and direction appropriate appointment location.


This position also provides support with the enrollment process by making copies, submitting enrollment payments and assisting the Access Coordinators with other duties as needed. The ability to speak Spanish is not required but is highly desirable.


Program Support
Volunteers and interns are needed to assist with Physician’s Reach Out Enrollment (PRO) Program and the Renewal Program processes by assembling patient enrollment materials, making copies, filing, sending fax, prepare mailings, performing data entry, and make outgoing calls to program participants about scheduled appointments or renewal deadlines. Volunteers with research and writing skills are needed to contact patients and program participants to create written testimonials. These testimonials are later used in marketing, outreach, advocacy, and fundraising. You will also be responsible for entering Renewal Client Stories into our Story Data Base.

The stories are received in both English and Spanish and require the volunteer/intern to translate the stories into English.
