Jamil Niner Student Food Pantry UPIP Intern
Leadership & Community Engagement
Position Description: One in three college students experiences food insecurity. If you’re passionate about helping others and addressing food insecurity on campus while also working with volunteers in a leadership role, this internship is for you!
The Food Pantry UPIP Intern is primarily dedicated to the administration of the Jamil Niner Pantry working with the Assistant Director of Leadership & Community Engagement and the Graduate Assistant. This position includes recruitment, organization and working with volunteers and student clients. This is a 15 hour per week position starting in August 2022 and ends in May 2023.
This internship is open to any major but would be an excellent opportunity for a Business, Public Administration, Public Health, or Social Work major.
Required Skills:
The person in this position must have
Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
Individual should be self-motivated, organized, detail oriented,
Be passionate about helping others
Competent in various computer programs
Must be willing to be Van Driver Certified
Must be willing to become Food Safe Certified
Responsibilities:
Works 15 hours per week at the JNSP from August - May (Currently, the pantry is scheduled to be staffed from 11:30-5:00pm Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and intern hours would need to take place during that time for the majority of the time. Some hours may take place outside of this time as approved)
Assists with all daily operations at the Jamil Niner Student Pantry (JNSP) including email appointment reminders, tracking no-show clients, and shopping
Works with volunteers, other interns, donors, & Leadership & Community Engagement (LCE) staff to maintain mission of JNSP
Helps create volunteer opportunities for student groups, classes and individual volunteers to assist at the pantry
Helps promote JNSP through social media, tabling, etc
Assists with Swipe Out Hunger Program
Assists with leading volunteers with tasks such as:
Sorting and stocking shelves
Writing and coordinating volunteers to assist with donor thank you cards
Works with Pantry Garden Intern to provide volunteers for gardening tasks
