Job Description

The Costume Lab Manager oversees the direction, execution, and realization of all costume elements associated with College of Arts + Architecture productions and performances, in consultation with the Dance Costume Designer (PAS) and Professor of Costume Design (Theatre). The successful candidate will have strong patterning skills (draping or flat patterning) and experience supervising/teaching individuals of varying skill levels. The Costume Lab Manager also plays an important role in the education of performing arts students in the College of Arts + Architecture. Teaching responsibilities include Production Practicum.

  • Management and maintenance of all costume shop resources, including budgets, supplies, materials, equipment, calendars, and schedules.
  • Hiring, management, supervision, and instruction of all costume shop staff, in partnership with the Dance Costume Designer
  • Consult closely with Designers, Design Assistants, and Dance Costume Designer on the patterning and construction of costumes to ensure design completion and labor efficiency
  • Attend all fittings to ensure consistency and construction standards.
  • Set procedures for and manage costume storage and costume rentals and borrowing.
  • Train wardrobe crews, in partnership with Dance Costume Designer
  • Attend all production meetings and dress rehearsals.
  • When needed, assist in all costume-related aspects of productions including design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Maintain industry standard shop safety and standards of construction consistent with the highest professional standards.
  • Interact with students as a professional role model in the costume lab.
  • Communicate effectively with Dance Costume Designer, Design Faculty, Production Team, and students
