Job Description

The Office of External Relations and Partnerships includes the offices of Constituent Relations, Corporate Engagement and Economic Development located in the Division of University Advancement. 


The office of Constituent Relations fosters, supports, and expands the University’s relationships with federal, state, regional, and local government officials and agencies. From welcoming government representatives to campus to providing information and access, Constituent Relations forges the link between UNC Charlotte and public officials. 


The office of Corporate Engagement is the single point of entry to the University for corporations, providing a strategic and tailored approach to holistic engagement to help maximize and accelerate access to the University. 


And, the office of Economic Development works with university allies to recruit and expand companies in the Charlotte region. Work of this unit includes building relationships with economic development partners, hosting events and highlighting the University’s research and talent aligned to growing industries. 


Student will assist the department of External Relations & Partnerships with administrative duties, research, presentations, and select departmental and campus events. The tasks and events within the External Relations & Partnerships are not necessarily cyclical. Tasks include 

  • Monitoring legislative and regulatory activities related to the university
  • Conducting corporate or policy research in designated areas
  • Monitoring legislative issues and potential regulations impacting the university
  • Watch or attend virtual committee meetings and provide summary
  • Provide event support, including creating an invite list and invitation, event setup/teardown, managing event data entry

The position will work heavily with Constituent Relations on projects and research as well as the office of Corporate Engagement. Past examples of events that student interns have helped plan and attend include 

  • Light Rail Grand Opening,
  • Charlotte Regional Business Alliance meetings,
  • Congressional Staff Symposium,
  • NCDOT Board meetings
  • Chancellor-level events.
  • VIP campus visits
