Job Description

Academic Impact: This internship will provide a student with first-hand experience with captioned media production, professional collaboration with campus partners, such as faculty and departments, and marketing of services.

Intern will develop technical skills in captioning and strengthen skills in teamwork, communication, and cultural awareness.

Full Internship Description: The Office of Disability Services works to ensure students with disabilities access to education at UNC Charlotte. Intern will assist with producing captioned media for students with disabilities and the larger University population. This entails providing accurate and timely captions, subtitles and transcriptions for classroom and campus lectures, podcasts, and educational videos. This student will also assist in promoting accessibility through multiple websites and building relationships with multiple campus partners. The student will help research and compile useful information and best practices for captioning in post-secondary education. By the end of this internship this student will have a well-rounded knowledge of captioned media production, enhanced communication and teamwork skills, and a greater cultural awareness of people with disabilities.

Open to the following majors: English and Communication Studies.

Candidates should have the ability to communicate verbally in concise and clear English, so that speech-to-text software captures voice accurately. Specific skills sought are editing, writing, professional oral communication, attention to detail, willingness to learn new technology, and ability to prioritize.
