Role: Industrial/Manufacturing Engineering Intern – Grover, NC

Location:  Grover, NC (housing stipend available if requirements are met)

Pay: $19-22/hour (based on academic classification)

Target Duration: 12 weeks (May 13 – August 2, may be flexible)

Job description:

Position Summary:

This position will provide aspiring Engineers with hands-on real-world experience that can boost your career in an automotive manufacturing environment. You will work with great people on a cross-functional team as well as having the opportunity to work independently on many projects. Projects will include production line set-up, line balancing, time studies, process improvements, development of work instructions, training, and much more. You will be able to apply the knowledge you have gained through course work on projects to help us optimize our manufacturing processes, improve product quality, and drive efficiency gains. As a participating member of cross-functional teams your input will help to develop and implement manufacturing strategies that align with our company's objectives. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the integration of new product lines to the facility ensuring process control to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and minimize production costs.
  • Using AutoCAD create line layouts that optimize one piece flow and efficiency. 
  • Create Line Balance through Time Studies to ensure consistent product flow.
  • Assist in the creation/updates to work instructions/standard operating procedures (SOPs) and production documents.
  • Work with a cross-functional team in the development of training visuals and training needs of the new product production.
  • Work with the current Maintenance team in the development of preventative maintenance on current and new equipment.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through process improvements, supplier negotiations, and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Investigate production issues and defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process control plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, supply chain, and maintenance, to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Promote and adhere to safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be actively pursuing a degree in Process, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering. Must have completed a minimum of one year towards a technical degree.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and automation.
  • Experience in CAD software and familiarity with manufacturing simulation tools.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing training a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
