Job Description

Xylem is seeking a Technical Writing Intern. You will use knowledge of the software engineering discipline, processes, and tools to impact and drive customer-focused product development and contribute to building next-generation platforms.

The hourly rate for an intern is dependent on a variety of factors including major, year in school, and geographic location. The average hourly rate for an intern is between $21.00 - $27.00/hour. Locations of internships will vary based on the specified project and function, and will either be on-site, hybrid, or fully remote.

The Role:

The Technical Writing Intern will be responsible for supporting the Technical Writer by working directly with Technical Support on new dredging documents including brochures, installation manuals, operation manuals, and driver descriptions. Additionally, the Technical Writing Intern will work with the Sales and Marketing team on emails and brochures for HYPACK products and training.

This is a paid 40 hour per week internship position with a hybrid schedule consisting of 2 days in-person in Middletown, CT, and 3 days of remote work. This position reports directly to the Technical Writer.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Collaborate with technical support, engineers, and writer to gain and in-depth understanding of HYPACK's DREDGEPACK®, and other products.

  • Support engineers and tech support with new documents and documentation updates.

  • Support marketing with outgoing emails, brochures, and articles.

  • Update existing technical documents to reflect changes in engineering and/or software design.

  • Create and/or edit figures and drawings using image-editing software.

  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the general goals of the Technical Writing team.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Currently enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program pursuing a degree in English, Engineering, or relevant degree.

  • Demonstrated ability to write detailed technical documents.Sample required (can be from Technical Communication class, reports and articles written for engineering class).

  • Willingness to learn new processes, procedures, and software.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.

  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines.

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with colleagues in multiple departments.

  • Advanced computer software skills with MS Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneDrive/SharePoint.
