Job Description

SUMMARY

Provides cashier, stock, and customer relations functions in a retail outlet and donation processing center by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES are listed below in order of importance, from most important to least important.

 

Provides Customer Service by processing customer transactions by ringing the sale on a cash register, collecting payment, making change, bagging the merchandise, answering questions, assisting customers with shopping needs, and thanking the customer.

 

Pulls racks for transporting clothing from the back room to the sales floor and places clothes on sales floor racks. Merchandises clothing on sales racks with similar types and colors of clothing.

 

Pulls clothes from racks that are too full to ensure rotation system is effective and that the sales floor is kept in a clean, neat and properly displayed manner.

 

Provides a safe shopping environment by keeping the sales floor, work area and dressing rooms; clean,  free of clothing, debris and hangers.

 

Supports agency initiatives and programs.

 

Maintains and cleans work area, along with following SOP guidelines for work area.

 

Greets donors to receive merchandise, providing donor with a dated receipt, if desired.  Places donated items in containers with other similar products.

 

Reports known or suspected security and/or theft problems to the Store Manager or other member of management.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides back-up support at the donation door as needed.

 

Performs hanger/sorter functions as needed.

 

Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Store Manager.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

No prior experience or training.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and write English and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations and respond to questions from customers, donors and employees using tact, courtesy and cooperativeness.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic addition and subtraction.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to carry out simple written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems in non-standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to operate a telephone and multi key register.  Must have access to reliable transportation.

This job has no certificate, license or registration requirements.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly (more than 2/3 of the day) required to stand; talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel.  The employee frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the day) is required to reach with hands and arms; walk and pull.  The employee is occasionally (less than 1/3 of the day) required to bend and stoop.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

Work is performed indoors.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to dust.  The employee is occasionally exposed to odors, outside weather conditions and extreme cold or heat (non-weather).  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
