Undergraduate Research Assistant
Work-Study Opportunity
POSITION
Presently, I am looking for an undergraduate student research assistant who is interested in producing original research related to the histories of enslaved burial grounds in the city of Charlotte.
Applicants should be familiar with EXCEL, GOOGLE CALENDAR, WORD, GOOGLE DOCS, DROPBOX, and be willing to learn how to navigate ANCESTRY.COM to examine how Charlotte’s church history was shaped by slavery. I am particularly interested in hiring an undergraduate student whose research interests/academic major align with this project.
Qualifications: Proficiency with EXCEL and WORD software, data management, and ability to read cursive print. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Main Duties include:
1) Work with principal investigator in analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data from historical church archives as well as records from the Mecklenburg County and Cabarrus County Register of Deeds
2) Assist in oral interviews with community members
3) Organize collected data from archival records
4) Work with a high degree of independence and under general direction.
