Job Title: Marketing Intern with the Humane Society of Charlotte

Reports To: Marketing & Communications Manager

Summary:
This position will assist and support the Marketing and Philanthropy teams within the Humane Society of Charlotte, working closely with staff members on various tasks and projects related to marketing, social media, fundraising, and events. The intern will develop a good understanding of all aspects of the Humane Society of Charlotte’s Marketing and Philanthropy efforts and how they work together with other teams to achieve the organization’s mission.

Intern Will:
• Gain a working knowledge in marketing, nonprofit management, and fundraising techniques
• Learn to apply your skills of content marketing, media relations, social media, special event coordination, and fundraising in a real-world setting
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Marketing/Philanthropy Department Duties
• Researches trends and best practices for animal welfare-based marketing and fundraising campaigns
• Assists with social media by monitoring trends, writing copy, creating posts, etc.
• Captures content (video and photo) of the animals for use on social media
• Creates graphics in Canva for marketing purposes
• Provides updates to the HSC website as requested
• Develops ideas for and writes blog posts on a variety of topics
• Assists Marketing and Communications Manager with day-to-day tasks
• Assists Events Manager with event logistics, sponsor and vendor acquisition, set-up and preparation for HSC events
• Assists Philanthropy Manager with researching foundations and grant opportunities for HSC’s programming
• Assists Philanthropy Assistant with coordinating rentals held in HSC’s Education Center
• Assists with mailings and special projects as needed

Qualifications/Expectations:

• Enthusiasm for the mission of the Humane Society of Charlotte and helping animals in our community
• Proficient with Microsoft programs
• Proficient with Google Docs
• Basic photo editing, design, and copy-writing skills
• Video editing skills a big plus – Tiktok experience also a big plus
• Interest in traditional media opportunities (TV, radio, etc.)
• Attention to detail and able to take direction well
• Self-motivated, well organized, and able to work independently and prioritize projects
• Goal oriented, committed to excellence and results
• Strong interpersonal communication skills required, as well as a high-level skill in written and verbal communication
• Must have a great sense of humor and enjoy working in a relaxed office environment
• Must be comfortable interacting directly with dogs and cats
• Must have a mode of transportation to get to and from the Humane Society of Charlotte
• Must be willing to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends for special events
Physical Demands:
• The function of this job requires standing and sitting for extended periods of time
• Must be able to lift & move up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stoop, bend and lift overhead
• Indoor and outdoor exposures
