Job Description

SouthPark Community Partners (SCP) is an independent nonprofit organization whose mission is to lead SouthPark's advancement by driving economic vitality, creating memorable experiences, and ensuring an extraordinary quality of life. SCP was established in 2022 and is the result of a public-private partnership. We provide professional management of the SouthPark Municipal Service District (MSD-6) through an annual contract with the City of Charlotte, which allows us to lead initiatives like the SouthPark Forward 2035 Vision Plan, SouthPark After 5 concert series, and SouthPark Loop.

About this role:

SouthPark Community Partners is looking for a part-time, paid intern to support the broad spectrum of initiatives our organization focuses on each day. This role will work across community engagement, economic development, marketing and events, placemaking, and urban planning efforts to support the day-to-day and big picture goals of SCP. Expect to conduct research, manage projects, propose ideas and internal processes, and produce public-facing work to drive the SouthPark community forward.

Internship dates:

Tuesday, September 3 – Friday, November 8, 2024

Responsibilities:

  • Events and placemaking research, ideas, preparation and on-site support
  • Economic development research, data collection and data analysis
  • Tactical community engagement and outreach with SouthPark business leaders
  • Business development research and collateral management
  • Content production across web, social, and newsletter platforms
  • Day-to-day office operations and projects 

Skills and qualifications:

  • Consistent communicator and creative problem solver
  • Organized with attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and eager to support a wide variety of efforts
  • Professional with the ability to represent SCP to stakeholders, vendors and community members
  • Interest in placemaking and/or events that activate and create community
  • Proficient in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • Basic research skills with ability to organize data
  • Interest in local government, small business and/or the nonprofit sector
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and strong writing skills

Experience and education:

  • 2 years of paid or community work experience, required
  • High school degree or equivalent, required
  • 2 years or more of higher education, preferred but not required

Compensation and duration:

  • This position pays $15-20/hour based on level of experience and education. Interns will be responsible for paying all applicable taxes from this contract. 
  • This is a project-based position anticipated to run 10 weeks at 10-15-hour/week 
  • This is a fully in-office role at the SCP office (4250 Congress Street, Charlotte, NC).
  • Interns must supply their own technology, including laptop and phone.
